Pesky Love Bugs and Ants

Pesky Love Bugs and Ants

By Marcella S. Meeks

For the last several weeks, ants have crept into my house and started attacking the dog’s food, my sugar bowl, or just about anything left sitting around. They’re annoying, and yes, they sting. My grandson was eating chips on the edge of my bed one day, and that night, I turned back my covers and almost crawled into a pile of ants.

Ants are for outside picnics, not inside the house. These little buggers are tough. Against my better judgment and because of the harmful chemicals in the bug spray, I have to spray once in a while. They are annoying but I’d rather them not be here at all. Getting stung by ants isn’t for me.

Then, if that’s not enough, there are all these pesky love bugs that are everywhere – literally thousands of them. Where do they come from, and why are they here?

The front of my trail blazer is horrible and so is my windshield. I have to clean it off practically every day.

I’m not one to complain about things but enough is enough. When will they go away?

They’ve started clinging to the outside of the screens on my mobile home windows and every time we walk out, they land in our hair and start crawling all over us. If you live in Logansport, you know what I mean. Both the ants and the love bugs are annoying.

I guess that’s part of living in the south! These pesky little creatures like comfort food, water and air conditioning, I guess!

I went down to the drug store earlier to pick up a prescription and to my dismay, they were all over the front entranceway and in the store. It can’t be helped. They’re just everywhere.

I read online at one place that the love bugs migrate here from Central America. They thrive on stagnant water and debris but they also just cling to almost anything, even humans. Google ‘getting rid of love bugs’ and find a solution that works better for you. That’s exactly what I’m fixing to do! I’m sick of the little pesky critters.

Well, that wraps up my rant and rave for today. May the ants and the love bugs get on out of town!

Greetings, Friends and Neighbors…

September has never been my favorite month of the year for some odd reason. But neither has any month in the fall. Everything seems to be drying up. All the tress around the neighborhoods are shedding leaves. The grass has went from lush green to dried up remnants of green and weed-looking stuff that is ugly and dehydrated. My favorite time of year is Spring (March, April, May and June).

Our weather is also unpredictable, especially in the South. In times past, there have been very hot September days (as it is now) and then there were Septembers were very cool. I remember September 1975 very well. On the 23rd of September of that year, it felt like 40% degrees outside in East Texas. The days of summer were coming to an end. I remember attending a funeral service that particular day in 1975 and how everyone was dressed for colder weather. A few days before, it had been hot.

Today, on the 10th (2026) it is 94 degrees in East Texas. When will hot days of summer be ending now? It’s strange how unpredictable weather can be, especially in the fall.

But as some say, it is what it is! Not sure what that is supposed to mean exactly but I think you get the point!

There’s not much going on in Logansport right now. We’re under a burn ban. With everything all dried up like it is, I can definitely see why the burn ban is in effect. A fire in these woods would be hard to contain – putting it out would be next to impossible.

We’ve had a little rain this month but not as much as we need or want! But we’ll gladly take what get.

I finally had to replace my bed. I twas old and uncomfortable. I wasn’t sure what bed to get because I have a bad back. I know the pillow top mattresses don’t work for me. Someone told me about a memory foam mattress. They said that the doctor had recommended the memory foam. So I figured I’d try it. I have an Amazon account so I done the research and found this particular mattress … Sweetnight CoolNest 14 Inch California King Mattress, Cooling Memory FoamCool Night Sleep, 5-Zone Ergo Support for Pressure Relief, Enhanced Breathability, Medium Feel, CertiPUR-US Certified. I have slept so good every night since I got my new bed. I almost didn’t get it from Amazon but I saved shipping and handling and 15% because I do have an account. But getting the rest I need is more important to me than anything. It works for me.

That’s about it for this post but I’ll add more when I get a chance.
